Sharks
of the Pacific Coast
Shark List
There are 36+ species of sharks found around and
off the coast of California. Some of these species
travel from as far south as Chile, to as far north
as Alaska's Bering Sea. Of the sharks listed below,
only 15 species are reported to have attacked humans.
In general, sharks don't like the taste of humans
and most often an attack is a case of mistaken identity,
or in the case of the Great White, they are simply
curious and use their jaws to test objects, potential
food, etc.... WAVE has developed a shark deterrent
system to help mitigate potential attacks.
